One-design classes are featured during race regattas, or it may just be "fastest boat wins". Current popular classes are the Northwind 36 and the RG-65 but as RC technology develops more and more classes are appearing.
Races are conducted according to the general rules of sailing although depending on the occasion and seriousness of the competition many days are dedicated to "fun races" with respect to boats and course being sailed.
Gatherings take place throughout the year at various local and regional locations that have easy access to launching and retrieval. Upcoming events are usually posted the the website or email notifications are sent to BRCYC members.
Besides hands-on activity with the boats a day out at the pond can be enjoyable for the whole family. Bring a chair and the kids, relax and enjoy your afternoon, and maybe you'll be invited to take control of a boat.
There are no restrictions on boat type or size and no fees or dues. Although one-design boats are encouraged to level the playing field, new designs appear often and fleets continue to evolve.
The Bluegrass RC Yacht Club (formerly the Sunday Sails RC Yacht Club) is a regional group with interests in both scale-model sailing and powerboating. Locations in Louisville have included places like Patriots Peace Memorial off River Road, The Pond at Norton Commons, Hurstboutne Green off Hurstbourne Lane and, in nearby Elizabethtown, on Freeman Lake.
