Sailing Time-Share Program The concept behind the Sailing Time-Share Program is to provide adults, who have completed an RCCSP sailing class or an equivalent course, access to one or more sailboats on which they can continue their sailing experience and improve and enhance their skills. Who is eligible: Adults who have completed, at a minimum, RCCSP’s beginning sailing class or equivalent. How it works: During the seasonJune through October, members of the time-share program are able to go out on one of the Program’s three keelboats when the boats are not being used by RCCSP for its sailing classes and/or scheduled activities. Each of the Program’s three boats 22-ft. Catalina, 23-ft Sonar and 26-ft. Ericson has an assigned skipper who is responsible for the boat. Once registered, members are responsible for working with the Program to help prepare the time-share boats for launching and launching them in the spring. During the season a work party may be called to wash boats and to deal with basic maintenance tasks. Once launched, usually the middle to the end of May, members can reserve a boat to go sailing. Reservations are handled through each boat’s skipper. (The reservation procedure is detailed in a separate document.) Members are not to sail a boat on their own; the boat’s captain or an RCCSP certified skipper must accompany the member or group of members. RCCSP offers a course through which members can become an RCCSP certified skipper. (see Skipper Certification) Time-share members must set up sailing times with the desired boat’s captain. At the end of the season members of each boat must participate in taking the boats out of the water, cleaning and winterizing them (if any winterizing is necessary) and preparing them for winter storage. Racing Option: A racing option has been developed through which members can choose to race aboard the Program’s 23-ft. Sonar in the Cruising Club of Louisville’s two, 8-week, Wednesday Night Racing Series and at least one of the season’s major regattasCaptain’s Quarters. Members, who sign up for the racing option through Janet DenUyl, a time-share member and the racing option’s administrator, become the Sonar’s racing crew on a rotating basis. George Sims, a seasoned and highly skilled racer, is the Sonar’s racing skipper/instructor. The Sonar will race in JAM B class. Crew people will have the opportunity to helm the boat during different portions of the race. Overnight Trips: The Program has chosen not to permit overnight trips within the context of the sailing time-share program. Guests: The time-share has two guest options. One, allows members to take one or more guests a limited number of times whenever there is room on the boat. With the other one, members pay a guest fee ($150.00) which allows them to take single guest out unlimited numbers of time and to reserve a spot for the guest. Members who chose the first option can bring one or more guests with them when they show up to go out, after making a reservation. However, if the boat has a full complement of members, the guests will not be able to go out. If there is not a full complement of members who want to go out, guests can fill the available openings on the boat. Each boat has a set compliment of members which includes the certified skipper. The compliment for each boat is as follows: Catalina-4, Sonar-5, and Ericson-4. The other option allows members to pay a guest fee of $150, which gives them the right to take one guest out multiple times through out the season. The difference between this option and the previous one besides being able to take the guest out on an unlimited basis is that when the member makes a reservation he can do so for two people (he/she and his/her guest). The guest is guaranteed a spot on the boat. However, the only time the guest will be able to go out is with the primary member with whom the guest is associated. The Program offers a US Sailing Keelboat/RCCSP Skipper Certifications class. The class is open to everyone who completed the Program's adult beginning and intermediate classes. A student/time-share member who takes the class and completes it successfully becomes a certified RCCSP skipper. As a certified RCCSP skipper, a time-share member is able to take out a time-share boat out any time one is available and another time-share member can go out with him or her. Also, non-certified time-share members can arrange for a certified skipper to take them out. The Season: The sailing season is generally considered the beginning of June through the end of October. We expect to be able to move the boats to their assigned dock about the 15th of May. However, boats will not be launched until all season prep work is completed. The Fee: The time-share membership fee is $375.00. As noted in the section on guests, there is a guest fee, which is $150. Note: Registration for the time-share program will be accepted from adults after they have successfully completed a beginning RCCSP class or equivalent.
