River Cities Community Sailing Program
An Invitation To Fun! An Invitation To Sail!

What are the courses

The curriculum of the 15-hour courses, beginning, intermediate and advanced, meet standards established by US Sailing, the national governing authority. Students will spend between 60 and 75 percent of class time on the water developing their sailing skills. The other 25 to 40 percent will be spent learning sailing concepts in a classroom setting.

Who will teach?

The River Cities Community Sailing Program has an instructor team with a broad range of experience in teaching, hands-on-sailing, US Sailing organization certifications, and US Coast Guard licenses.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, students will have all points of sail, trimming its sail for speed and direction, safety skills ashore and afloat, the rules of the road; and learned docking maneuvers, to recognize weather patterns and to practice basic boating courtesies.

Who can take courses?

Youth courses are open to Kentuckiana boys and girls between the ages of 10 through 17. The adult course is available to all residents of Kentuckiana over the age of 18.

Where Will I learn to sail?

All youth classes will operate from the lousiville Sailing Club facility, 7300 Beechland Beach Road, Prospect, KY 40059 (adjacent to Hayes Kenndy Park off Upper River Road). View map.

What are the prerequisites?

Ideally the Program would like every student to be able to swim. However, in order not to exclude any children the minimum prerequisite will be to jump in the water and cover 25 yards using any stroke while wearing a life jacket. Adults may not need to meet this requirement.

How do I register and pay for a course?

To secure a spot in a course two things are required: A completed registration packet, and payment. Please note that both the registration packet and course fee must be received in order to begin a session.

The registration packet can be found at the bottom of each course page and can be downloaded and printed. Once complete it can be scanned and emailed to rccsp@SailLouisville.org (this is the preferred and fastest method for forms submission) Signed and completed registration forms can also be postal-mailed to the RCCSP office address as shown on our contact page.

Payment for the course can be made securely through PayPal (this is the preferred and fastest method) with credit card or your PayPal account. A course selection drop-down menu and PayPal button can be found at the bottom of each course page. Alternatively course fees can be made by check and postal-mailed to the RCCSP office address.
