2008 Adult Sailing Class Schedule

Adult Beginning Sailing
Class length: 15 hours
(3 weekends for 4 hours each; 1 weekday evening for 3 hours)
Class size: Minimum of three (3), maximum of (5)
Fee: $150, includes cost of the course book.
In beginning sailing, you'll master sailing's most essential skills: how to steer a boat, trim its sail and execute sailing maneuvers such as tacking and jibing. You'll also learn about controlling sail shape and navigation aids, how to enter and leave a dock, how to tie several common sailing knots, useful in every day life, the rules of the road on inland waters and water safety.

Adult Intermediate Sailing
(completes US Sailing Basic Keelboat course)
Class length: 15 hours
(4 weekends; 3 hours, 45 minutes per session or as otherwise noted)
Class size: Minimum of three (3), maximum of four (4)
Prerequisite: Successfully completion of beginning sailing or equivalent experience
Fee: $175
In intermediate sailing, you'll build on the skills mastered in beginning sailing. Additionally, you'll learn to do a pre-sail check, to use sail shape controls, execute a man overboard drill, to shorten sail, to anchor under sail and power, to tie additional nautical knots and about tides and currents.

Skipper's Certification and US Sailing Keelboat Certification Class
Through this class you’ll learn about outboard gas and inboard diesel engines, VHF radio usage, tidal effects, preventing going aground and use of an emergency tiller. You will be required to demonstrate crisp accurate tacks and jibes, crew overboard, heaving to, reefing, stopping the boat, getting out of irons, chart reading, boat handling skills and docking.
