Captainís Quarter Regatta

There will be no official racing at the club this weekend.  Of course, the club is open for any one who wants to go day sailing.  Instead of club racing, LSC supports the Captainís Quarter Regatta.  All proceeds from the regatta will go to River City Community Sailing Program. This program promotes teaching adults and kids how to sail.  This is the 41st Captainís Quarters Regatta. (September 28, 29, 30)  The registration party will be Friday evening. The skipperís meeting will be Saturday morning at 11:00 AM.

Sunfish Rally

The Sunfish Rally this past Saturday was a blow out!  With wind between twenty to thirty MPH, and gust well above thirty MPH, the half dozen sailors that showed up decided to wait until next years Sunfish Rally to sail.

The Sunfish official racing season ended this past Tuesday evening. With darkness setting in around 7:30it is not possible to get the boats rigged and run the course.  It was a great season with around twenty sailors participating throughout the summer.

Thistle Regatta

Thanks Neal Deaves for a great Thistle Julep Cup Regatta.  The racing was great with seven races with variable winds, both direction and velocity. The easterly wind created a challenge for the race committee, lead by John Emmerich.

The racing consisted of two laps for all but the last race which had three laps. Positions changed during each race as the leaders exchanged positions on a regular basis. Neal Deaves and Jay Geil decided to play bumper boats during the last race.  The big loser was Jay Geil's woody 1330.  He now has a nice ďportĒ holed in the bow.

A good meal was provided Saturday evening as stories were told about the wind and conditions of each race. The wind Gods did not provide the energy for racing Sunday and the regatta ended with just seven races.

As in previous years a Cowan sailor, Bryant Walker, won the regatta and got an early start home. We extend congratulations to Bryant for a job well done. David Bauer with crew Mike Sills had a great day of sailing and brought home the silver for LSC.
